In the MTM-1 Base course, you will be introduced to a new way of thinking and a more detailed look at how you can optimize manual activities. MTM takes a micro-level approach at reducing work time and cost. Anyone involved in Industrial Engineering, Lean Activities, or those who have a demonstrated need to develop optimal work measurement standards and methods in any Production Environment can take this online course. Engineering-LAS Online Learning has partnered with MTM Association to adapt the three-day course into an online course to provide students with the prerequisite understanding to continue on to other MTM courses.
You’ll receive a certificate of completion after gaining foundational knowledge about the MTM approach. This course prepares you for other MTM courses such as MTM-1 and MTM-UAS for which it is a prerequisite.
MTM-UAS is also offered online through Iowa State University.
- You will know the areas and requirements of application for MTM-1
- You will learn about the development and design of MTM-1
- You will explore the possibilities of application of MTM for:
- Planning and designing work methods and workstations
- Describing and evaluating work content
- Improving existing work systems
- You will observe the classification of MTM-1 in the framework of the MTM building block systems
This course covers:
- The development and fundamental terms of the MTM Basic System
- The basic motions of the Basic Cycle
- Basic motions of the eyes
- Foot, leg, and body motions
- Motions in combination
- The application of MTM
Course is delivered online through lecture videos and ungraded learning exercises split into units by topic. Each unit is split into sections and each section includes presentation slides in PDF format, a lecture video, exercises, and a video explaining exercise answers. To complete the course, you must take and pass the final exam with a score of at least 75%.
Each lecture video ranges from 5 minutes–20 minutes and varies by module and topic. You may complete each module at your own pace, but the course must be completed in 30 days to take the final exam. Approximate time to complete course is 20 hours.
You will be provided with a copy of the presentation slides used in the lecture videos and electronic copies of the MTM-1 Manual and MTM Data Card.
A few sections include either multiple-choice exercises ranging from 4–6 questions or form completion exercises. The exercises are not graded and will not affect your overall score in the course. They are meant to test your understanding of the unit material. After completing an exercise, you will have the opportunity to watch a video explanation of the exercise solutions.
After completing all of the lessons and the practice exam, you can take the MTM-1 Base final exam. Upon successfully passing the exam with a score of at least 75%, you will receive a certificate of completion from MTM. You may also order 2 CEUs/20 PDHs at the completion of the course. CEU issuing fee is $25.
If you wish to enroll multiple students in the course at one time, we do offer group rates as follows:
10–19 students, 5% off/registration
20–49 students, 10% off/registration
50+ students, 15% off/registration
You must register all students at the same time, providing name, email address, and telephone number. Each student will receive a separate username and password to access the certification course.
