Room Controls – Audio

  • audio_controlAudio is the most important aspect of any recording. Therefore, it is important to know how to control the audio sources within your room. By control, we mean adjust volume and mute specific audio sources. Usually, you will only have to worry about a single source: the instructor microphone feed. Classes that have student microphones will require you to monitor their output carefully in addition to the instructor feed.
  • ELO ROOMS
    • Audio controls in ELO rooms is done through the daVinci control program on the Control PC (next to the Encoder PC). Some is also done through the control panel program, which has buttons for muting the ceiling microphones, operator (god) microphone, and in-room speakers. There is also a volume bar for the in-room speakers and Instructor microphone.
    • Instructor microphone – any adjustments in volume should be made through the daVinci program, not through the control panel. The same goes for muting the microphone.
    • Student (Ceiling) microphones – you should not make any adjustments to the volume of the student microphones. Allow Matt or a senior producer to handle that. Student microphones shoutouch_panel_audiold stay off, unless there is an active discussion occurring. Mute/unmute should be done through the control panel, not through daVinci.
    • In-room speakers – adjusting volume and mute/unmute should both be done through the control panel.

  • NON-ELO ROOMS
    • Audio controls in these rooms is typically limited to an Alesis mixer in the rack. This control panel will have many options, but you will want to focus on the volume control row. All rooms will have the ability to control volume of the Instructor microphone. Some rooms will also have student microphones. All sources should be clearly marked on the mixer. Turn the knob to the left (counter clockwise) to turn audio down, and turn the knob to the right (clockwise) the turn audio up. Room audio is typically controlled from the projector control panel.IMG_1601
    • Note that there is a separate control knob to adjust the volume for the headphones. This does not control how loud the audio is in the recordings so turning it up will not make the instructor louder in the recording. Be sure to adjust the instructor volume knob to get ideal audio levels.
